SRQ Music Scene 1990’s

Welcome to the 1990’s Sarasota music scene page!  You may be in the wrong place!

How can you tell?  Try this simple test:

Did all your favorite bands rip up a mean blues at the Main Street Depot?  Are you hoping to find some pictures of your funky uncle Rory giving them the business down at the Gator Club?  Maybe you’re just looking for a chance to reminisce about that one time you jammed with the Marshall Tucker Band.

You are in the wrong place.  You’re looking for that other Sarasota scene.

Still not sure? Try this:

If you could legally order a beer in 1995 there’s a 95% chance you’ve come to the wrong place.  I call it the 95 rule.  I just made it up.  Did you fail the 95 rule? You will probably hate all of the music here. Seriously. You’ll be like:

“Where’s the all the guitar solos?”

“What’s she so angry about?”

“Is this gay? It seems a little gay.”

“That guitar solo sucked.”

“What’s fromunda cheese?”

“I can’t believe Rick Duncan recorded this shit!”

Why put yourself through that?  Life’s too short, man.  Although I will say that it’s possible, just possible, that you’ll dig Flight Path Give ‘em a boogle on your way out.

Ok.  If you passed those tests then you’re probably in the right place.  You’re probably even one of the thirty or forty people who went to see these bands on a regular basis.  Or you were in one of these bands.  Or you’re my dad.  Anyway, it’s pretty likely that you’re in one of the photos. It’s even more likely that photo was taken by Stacy Mathis. Do you know who Stacy Mathis is? You’re definitely in the right place.

I hope at least one of you is some kind of weird nostalgia tourist for short-lived, not-famous music scenes from towns you never lived in.  I don’t know if that person really exists but if they do, I hope they’ve found their way here.

Welcome.
